Precision Carpentry

Why buy local?

Most of the furniture and cabinetry in the average American home are built thousands of miles away, using materials gathered from all over the world, then packaged heavily and shipped across the country or the world to a local store or directly to your home.  Just a single kitchen's worth of cabinets produces HUGE amounts of packaging waste, not to mention the impact of shipping and driving those cabinets all over the world.

Furniture and cabinetry built by Cardinal Woodcraft is produced locally, from materials purchased at local lumberyards and, as much as possible, from trees that were taken down in the Pittsburgh area.  That means no packaging or shipping across the world, and trees that would normally just be cut up for firewood or disposed of, gain a second life for generations to come.  Not only that, but by having a local carpenter build your furniture and cabinetry, you are supporting your local economy and minimizing the environmental impact of your purchases.

Unmatched Quality

The average kitchen cabinet being installed into homes today is much inferior to those of ages past.  The sides and back are almost always made from only 1/2" particle board which chips easily and is very susceptible to water damage.  Cabinet doors and drawer fronts are often made of MDF or other cardboard like materials that won't stand the test of time.  Most of the furniture being produced also use similar materials and are built using inferior joinery and fasteners that do not last.

By using these materials, companies are able to keep prices low and profits high.  But over time, shelves sag, corners chip and kitchens  and bathrooms that are only a few years old, have severe water damage or chipping on the surface and corners of the cabinets.

I (Aaron) believe wholeheartedly in producing quality products from local materials that will stand the test of time.  I may not be able to compete with particle board and MDF prices, but I try to stay as reasonable as possible because I believe in what I am doing and want locally built products to be available to as many people as possible.

The truth is:  you get what you pay for.  Precision and quality take extra steps and extra time and patience.  Better materials typically cost more than inferior materials.  I aim for precision and quality in all of my projects so that what I build will last for generations.

Get exactly what you want

Probably the greatest reason to buy something built locally is that it is customizeable.  I often hear from people that they just couldn't find what they were looking for, even after searching the web or wandering through local stores for days or weeks.

I love working with customers to get exactly what they want whether that be size, color, design, functionality, etc.  These are options that are often not available from big box stores or online venders.

Service

If you ever have a problem of any kind with an item I've built for you, I will come back and make it right at no cost to you.  I try to the best of my abilities to build quality products and to use the best  materials so as to avoid callbacks.  However, if a problem ever arises, I am happy to come make it right.
